Narrowing the gap between the expectations and reality key to workplace happiness

Workers in larger organizations such as multinational corporations, publicly-listed companies and the civil service appear to be the unhappiest. This can be attributed to less flexibility and a general lack of affirmation, as well as opportunities for learning and growth. There appears to be a greater level of job satisfaction among staff of small and medium enterprises where greater participation in decision-making can actually give them a sense of purpose and better self-esteem.
