Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko says that Vladimir Putin is perfectly rational and knows very well what harm he is causing in Ukraine, and a prolonged conflict would be to his advantage. She also warns, in an interview, that after the end of the war it is very important for Europe to learn from its mistakes and, within the framework of a new security architecture, to also take care of countering Moscow's very effective propaganda.
Iulia Tymoshenko knows Putin well. In her capacity as former prime minister of Ukraine, a position she held twice, Yulia Tymoshenko met with Vladimir Putin both when he was president and when he was prime minister.
"I met him many times. (…) People say he is probably crazy to do what he did. I do not agree with this point of view. He is perfectly rational, but his rationality is a kind of cold rationality of evil. He does this knowing what evil is and what evil it causes," said Yulia Tymoshenko, recalling in this regard the episode of winter 2009, when Vladimir Putin discovered that he could use gas as a weapon, including against Europe. "I think those circumstances would have been a good time to stop him and develop real policies that would not allow him to continue his subsequent policies. Unfortunately, that was not the case," added the former Ukrainian prime minister.
She claims that she had warned Europe about Vladimir Putin since 2007, but she was not listened to.
"I had warned several European leaders about the risk that Putin represents, since 2007, when for the first time, in his speech at the Munich Security Conference, he said many things that he later put into practice.
