This is because rice is 5-6 (3 to 17) times more expensive in South Korea. Fruits are very expensive too.
The passengers carried 3-5 sacks of rice each, each weighing 30-50kg and of course exceeded the weight allowance. The South Koreans refused to pay for the 'excess luggage' and thus the flight was delayed.

S Korea become like Nippon , everything cost an arm and a leg nowadays. However, tiongkok not known for its rice, why fly all the way there to buy. Got cheap rice from Vietnam and cambodia mah.

The airfare is very cheap. 300+ RMB. Each person earned about 1600+ RMB (based on the article's calculation) per trip after deducting airfare. Qingdao is quite near to South Korea.
