Companies should compete with companies in the bid for coe. Consumers compete with consumers. Then that's fair. Otherwise, consumers sure lose out on the bidding with companies.

COE price is already out of touch for many sinkies. Now only the rich can own a car. Time to revamp the system.

Then why create another employment pass?? Then why allow FT to come in for non rocket scientist PMET jobs that Singaporeans desire?

Parliamentary debates in Singapore are a farce. An MP ask a question, the minister will then give a token reply.

The MP will be happy that he has raised it, thinking that he has fulfilled his parliamentary duties and more importantly, shown on official record that he has raised an issue. The minister, knowing that the other party doesn't really want to ask anything, will just bluff his/her way through with motherhood statements without much thinking. The matter will be settled with very little more questions. Both sides are happy.

Only Leong Mun Wai has so far shown that tenacity to keep pushing for answers beyond prepared replies. Hence, he is greatly hated by the govt, because they know they need to think about issues harder than they usually need to. Let's give LMW our vote in the next election.

that is a very smart move, push the price above 100K then offer these group a 20%-30% discount. PHV is actually the same as those yellow top taxi in the 70s (private owned).
Will there be another NTUC-like coming? Rotfl

It is not that I want to shame my Govt but seriously, as Govt at least must talk sense. That woman might as well remain a mute than to open her mouth. PM Lee should work hard to earn trust and not eroding our trust like this.

COE is meant to control car populations which can be understood.
But with some people owning multiple cars and only use one car and
the rest park at home do you think it is fair for this people to pay the
same COE price as those who really need just one car either for the family
or for work purposes. There is no doubt our roads are well built and is wide
and clean but in the future only certain groups of people will be able to enjoy
it so sad

I have proposed here before to impose additional taxes on second car and above but some (like ah butt) told me why must I get a car when the public transport is so good. He doesn't understand that it is the govt's responsibility to ensure that resources are not hoarded only by the rich.

To be fair since our higher mortals already know that many sinkie had been brought into how CoE ish help them own cars argument, moi supposed they might just the hell say anything many sinkie also will believe one. Sad

There was a time when the country asked ordinary men to do extraordinary things.

But now, they'll only do it for money.
