FIRE is what a lot of peepur wish for. Why? Firstly, they work because they need the money to pay the bills. Secondly, they don't like what they are doing. So they wish to FIRE.

Suppose you change the equation to:
Work to pay bills + Like what they do, and the other side of it becomes = Good deal, enjoying the work and getting paid for it.

Exampur: Fandi Ahmad. Enjoys kicking a ball around and gets paid for it. Why would he retire from football wor?

Or you change it to:
Don't need the money because my mother will pass down the HDB flat and her life savings to me + I don't like my job at all = Misery lorh.

Exampur: SgBuffet. So, he FIREd at the age of 23, just two years after he ROD (or ORD) because he didn't like to be a MacD crewboy.

I retired three times. Thrice. But I got bored because...how many times do you want to travel? I came back from Malacca recently walking all over the same old familiar places. If I go to Taipei and Kaohsiung, it will be the same thing lorh. It shant be different if I go to Tokyo or the other city which is spelled backward, Kyoto.

And peepur told me it is better to continue to work just to work the mind or else cognitive decline will set in sooner. If you are genetically predisposed to developing dementia, it will also come sooner, so keep your mind active, challenge it, and force it to think. It helps.

The ideal job for retirement is to ensure others continue to work for you.

Those who retired early, tend to live longer.

According to my friends who are retired, we shouldn't stop working just because we have set aside enough money to do so. Retirement is more an emotional transition rather than a financial one. Older workers usually plan for the financial aspects of retirement, but are often unprepared for the psychological fallout. Many retirees lose their identity after they call time on their careers while others may even face emotional crises. Transitioning from a life of daily work to no longer having a routine to follow may be daunting. There is no way to know what retirement is like until we stop work. Some are excited and relieved while others become sad or even dread the prospect. No matter what age we retire, there will be a transitional period for us to adapt to the changes.

Retire doesn't mean doing nothing. If one has cultivated a pastime, then he should retire and spend his time on it.
