This one I really cannot get it. Somehow rice prices gets jacked up in Japan when it's a net exporter of rice... Surely their years of harvest will mean they can control prices and supply very well... Feels so artificially created kind of panic...

Japan is a net IMPORTER of rice. Now it is trying to increase exports but even with increased exports (they want to increase exports 8-fold), the exports do not exceed the rice that Japan MUST import under trade agreements (770.000 tons annually).

I agree it's a very strange situation. Japan want to increase exports because of reduced domestic demand while rice prices keep rising.

Japan's rice price double becomes big news. Singapore's rice price I dunno multiply how many times but I think hawker food and kopi up a few folds already also no news.     Confused
