Rising prices: the first landlord in Germany turns off hot water for tenants
#1

Between four and nine in the morning, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at noon and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the evening, hot water is available as usual in the apartments of the Dippoldiswalde housing association. In the meantime, however, the water in the houses has not been heated since July 1st, so tenants are threatened with only being able to use cold water during these times. In addition, the heating will not be turned on until September.

The housing company has confirmed the extraordinary step to RTL. The measure is intended to protect tenants from significantly higher bills in a few months, says board member Falk Kühn-Meisegeier. The members of the cooperative are “not income millionaires” and some live below the poverty line. According to the landlord, many could no longer pay significantly higher prices. By dividing up hot water, gas should be saved and the rising prices should be cushioned a little.
