The operators of the electricity systems of the three Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) have agreed to disconnect their electricity networks from Russia and Belarus and synchronize them with the Western European systems starting from February 2025, the Lithuanian operator Litgrid announced on Wednesday.
The former Soviet republics, now members of the EU and NATO, intended to disconnect from the Russian electricity grid at the end of 2025, but the deadline was moved earlier following a study in which Polish experts also participated, reports the EFE and Agerpres. But this step will have a cost of hundreds of millions of euros, which will be mostly covered by European funds.
