...and in between the years after those 4 deep-space probes were launched from Earth till 2016, the US had lost interest in Moon exploration.
We had to wait for 45 years after the last Apollo mission, when an eccentric POTUS Trump decided to refocus America's interest back to the Moon leading to Artemis program in 2017 ..Why ?

I guess the Russian spacecraft could have been sabotaged, causing one of its stabilising rockets to fire and going into a spin.
(Like a Russian rocket that crashed during launch years ago as one of its angular velocity sensors was installed upside down)

As for the Indian moon lander, its success is still a big unknown.
Even for the initial Earth launching where there are many Earth-based position trackers, the Indian rocket had failed to enter the desired earth orbit accurately, resulting in the transport module burning more fuel than expected for more orbit corrections before its Earth-moon transfer. This resulted in lesser fuel for braking when entering the moon orbit, and the moon lander was thus ejected (separated) at a higher 153 x 163km moon orbit instead of the planned 100 x 100km circular orbit. 

Thus I believe there will be higher chance of "error" or inaccuracy when the lander does an autonomous braking for landing (just like shooting a pistol at 100m vs 150m).
