A Russian cosmonaut has become the record holder for staying in space. Flights to the International Space Station. This is the last area in which Russians cooperate with Americans.

As reported by the Russian space agency Roscosmos, the 59-year-old Russian cosmonaut became the first person to spend 1,000 days in space. Oleg Kononenko achieved the milestone after five trips to the International Space Station. He started in 2008.

The International Space Station is one of the few areas where the United States and Russia are working closely after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Roscosmos announced in December that it had extended its interplanetary spaceflight program with NASA to transport astronauts to the ISS until 2025 .
