Ryukyu king posthumous portraits missing since WWII returned to Okinawa from US

NAHA -- Two posthumous painted portraits of rulers of the Ryukyu Kingdom -- now Japan's Okinawa Prefecture -- have been returned after being discovered in the United States, the Okinawa Prefectural Government announced here on March 15.

The prefecture was informed by the FBI last March that 22 items, including old maps, ogoe portraits and ceramics gad been located. The items were then handed to the Okinawan government on March 14. A scientific analysis will be conducted into the materials used in the portraits and other objects, with an eye to putting them on public display.
