💵 Trump: Nothing Canada, Mexico or China can do to delay Feb 1 tariffs

US President Donald Trump said on Friday (Jan 31) he would impose hefty new tariffs of 25 per cent on goods from Mexico and Canada and 10 per cent on imports from China, and nothing could be done by the three countries to forestall them.

He can impose tariffs but the main point is, who is paying for them?

If the Chinese exporters do not pay the tariffs, then it must be the importers in the US who are paying, and they will in turn pass the cost back to their consumers.

So again, will the Chinese pay? Their margin is already very low, with so much competition. If they pay then they'll have to cut corners somewhere and again it's the consumers who will suffer.
