S'pore's problems are all caused by wrong expectations of S'poreans

People really have to wake up.

This is not your father's Singapore where people doing work like technician can afford 5room.flats, drive car and start a family. Things have changed Singapore is a globaliaed city now with a population of 6 million. Singaporeans' unrealistic expectations given the current context is a major source of problems.

6 million people. Obviously unlike in the past where people keep upgrading to bigger flats, it is no longer possible given how crowded we have become. Consider yourself luckly just to have your own place and you should be happy with that.

Not everyone who needs a car can get one now. Things have changed. You learn to take the public transport carry your newborn stroller and all up the bus. Teach your elderly parents to balance themselves and not fall down on the bus. There are only so many COEs allowed each year no matter how badly you need it. Learn to adjust to the new reality.

This is not the Singapore of your father's time. If you want that go somewhere else..Singapore is an ultra competitive society. It competes at all levels from the time you enter primary school to your working life. As if the competition is not intense enough, they will import foreigners to make sure you are on your toes all the time. Please don't be relaxed like your father's time. Things have changed it is different.

People complain that it is too expensive to raise children in Singapore. Why complain when you make the wrong choice to start a family. The other day I was at the hawker center where I saw a father tell his son not to order western food but to eat chicken rice instead because western food is to expensive. You want to be "that father" who cannot deliver to what your kid wants?

You have to remember that Singapore is a Globaliaed City with access to global talent. You kid yourself that no one in whole of China or whole of India can take your place here easily. You still have some value serving in NS and being readied to die defending Singapore - learn to appreciate this.

The earlier you reframe your mind and thinking the better it is for you as you accept the nrew reality and move on. You can't change the unchangeable. Once you set your expectations of life in Singapore to the correct realistic level many of your problems will be solved.

I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Having said so much, what is the correct realistic level of the expectations of life in Singapore?

Who is as stupid as Jac Lau to believe in such BS?

How can half the citizens be wrong against the 80 PAP Ministers?

It is their LOW standard and want us to fit their inability and incompetencies ?

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

I agreed what ts say.

But then can we say govt don't have the wrong expectation for sinkie to serve ns.

It has to be both ways.

Rewording a statement in the first post

"This is not the Singapore of your father's time. If govrt want someone to serve ns, that go find someone else."

1. I have served the nation in a combat unit for 2.5 + 10 years. I had fulfilled my duty as a citizen, but has the country do it's part for me?
2. I don't know where the threat of CCP is, but I know the threat of CECA is already at my doorsteps
3. I had been called a CCP, JHK, Pinoy, but they never called me a CECA..

OK. I listen to you since you are a genius.

I have lowered my expectation to vote for opposition party since it is not realistic to vote for PAP.

Singapore problem is a monopoly problem.

PAP has monopolised the political system since independence.
A monopoly system cannot last forever.

One day, the monopoly system will fall due to its inherent problems.
The main problem with monopoly is that PAP has already made the decision and pretended to ask for feedback.
No amount of feedback will change the decision.
Also a monopoly will tend to ignore growing problem until it breaks the monopoly.

if someone can break the monopoly, your Singapore problems will be no more problems because your expectations become realistic again.

We are born here and can expect anything from our Govt unlike foreigners who cannot because they made a decision to be here. So the bottom line is, is this Govt now able to meet our expectations or trying to meet the expectations of foreigners to win votes again?

Singaporeans have to understand they cannot keep voting for PAP and expect things to change.

That would be highly ILLOGICAL

But the 61% naive like Jac Lau

still thinks that his 80s and now, 20s is the same PAP

thinking they are the same dead people reincarnated to lead

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

I can only say that the expectation of people is high because the pay of politicians is high. Not only high, but often they're able to absolve from their responsibility by blaming the people below.

Expectation is often tied to the price you paid... If you paid top earners pay to an administration, you have every right to expect higher performance.

Case in point, if I were to buy a wallet in Tangs on the average common brands, I would not expect much service and will not demand anything. But when I walk into a boutique such as Gucci or LV, I expect service level that commensurate the price I paid or am going to pay. Fair and square.

And it cannot be a case where the solution to country's growth is importing foreigners at the expense of the citizens. Because the politicians and civil service exist because of the citizens not the other way round.

The KPI is GDP.

Is the stress level and difficulties of ordinary citizens the KPI?? I don't think so.

The more they are paid they hard they strive to realise the main KPI.

Singapore’s problem is caused by Govt who has the authority to sit on issues and just sue or Pofma when they are not happy.

Perhaps they should ask their masters (citizens) what parameters they should be evaluated on. The GDP KPI is more for them to compare and show off to the rest of the world so Singapore can be known as a hugely successful nation.

Their interest is showing off Singapore as an exceptional nation even it it drives stress to deep levels.

Reminds me of Korean coach pushing the kid to win.

Problem is is there no pot of gold for those being pushed. Many can't even retire comfortably due to lack of a universal national pension scheme.

At the end of the day the benefits accrued at the top among the elites

But according to you that is all right. We just have to temper our expectation. So dun ever let me see you complaining.

Yes just accept it. Don't expect much in way of retirement, car or family should be okay.
