SG Govt policies are to blame for soaring inflation
15-09-2024, 03:23 PM
The overpaid and overrated S'pore Govt is not only helpless to control soaring inflation, but their ill-advised policies such as attracting ultra wealthy foreigners to become citizens and agreements like CECA are resulting in overcrowding, and sending the cost of living skyrocketing. Why are the world's highest paid politicians so clueless about raising productivity that they have to rely on foreigners opening family offices here and handing them citizenship so that they may buy freehold land which is in such limited supply on our tiny island?

Inviting foreigners into land scarce S'pore to become citizens and buying up freehold land just causes property prices and rents as well as COE premiums to skyrocket. The ultra wealthy will not only purchase multiple homes, but have a fleet of high end cars.

The uncontrolled inflation in S'pore may be traced back all the way to the high cost of running this Govt as well as their poor policies that heap hardship on the people. When a tiny country is overcrowded, there are too many people competing for too few goods and services, so the price of everything shoots up.

What to do?
We are hollanded.
Once ppl start not to give birth due to high cost of living. More and more problems will be created especially aging population.
This is the main cause of the problems. Our growth is unsustainable. Keep importing is never a good solution.
We dont have the same culture. Only culture can unite ppl to achieve common goal.
I believe at certain stage, you will see more and more youngsters will leave Sg due to extremely high cost of living.
You have a degree. It is more easy to find good job and work oversea.

They are addicted to their current lifestyle, unwilling to make the change.

There's always good and sides to policy, but history has shown that carrying things to the extreme always ends up in a diasaster.
Is allowing rich foreigners to come in bad or good? I'm not too sure. But never believe in our govt when they said that because of the loggerheads between China and US our economy is badly affected. In fact, the reverse is true - because of the conflict, we have grown richer.
Many Chinese companies now set up base in Singapore to avoid being sanctioned by US. Take a look at SWC global. It is headquartered in Spore but you know what, its parent company is set up by Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi. It invests mainly in India and Indonesia.

So much social problems that foreigners created. Like illegal companies recruiting maids, scammers, money launderings and house breakings, just to name some. Are Govt still sitting on these problems?

Ministers' bonuses are tied to S'pore's GDP growth; our Ministers priority is therefore economic growth at all costs which means that they are pro-business and pro-employer. To hell with labour rights, welfare of workers or the hardship suffered by the masses.

You do not seem to understand the causes of inflation. The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East are contributory factors, but not the only cause of inflation. The main drivers of inflation in S'pore are food, transport and housing and utilities which accounts for approximately 21%, 17% and 25% respectively of the consumer price index. Overcrowding results in an increased demand for food, water, housing, energy, healthcare, transportation etc. And all that consumption contributes to destruction of the environment, increased conflicts and a higher risk of pandemics.
