I tried something similar after seeing a demo at a cocktail bar where they used the same kind of setup for their display shelves. It reminded me how creative use of hinges and balance can make even simple wood pieces move smoothly. I added a soft-close catch to prevent any hard slam at the end, and it worked nicely without messing up the movement.
