Foreign countries have similar “emergency warning system”, which is used to urgently notify citizens to flee in the event of natural or man-made disasters.
In the past, the government needed to send messages through SMS, but it took a long time for them to be sent to the public.
The purpose is to send important announcements and messages to the public in case of emergencies in Hong Kong, including public health incidents. This is the first time the “Emergency Alert System” has been used.
In theory, all mobile phones of Hong Kong citizens could receive information about Queen Elizabeth Hospital as long as they were within the coverage area of the CA’s base station.
