This cult operated for years in Japan and swindled so much from vulnerable elderly.
Yet nothing was done

It regularly paid politicians and celebrities to appear in videos Donald Trump also appeared before in their video praising the "dear mother".

It is really strange a Korean cult can operate in Japan for so long and not be closed down after cheating so many people. Worse still instead of closing them politicians appear in their video to promote the cult.

There is no question that what the suspect did was wrong.

It is also clear that the authorities and leaders really failed him driving him to desperation.

This cult has long been banned in Singapore.
The dangers of cults taking advantage of freedom of religion laws is a problem.
Established religions were once new religions with all sorts of practices that are cleanse over long periods to become a part of our society and often beneficial. Cults often take advantage of brainwashing to exploit their followers.  Due to vulnerability of humans this right 'freedom of religion" is not absolute in Singapore. Our authorities have to make a judgement call on whether a religious group is allowed in Singapore.
