The elaborate plot involved six men and a mole, Sahil Polekar, who infiltrated Mohol's gang two months prior to the murder.
On the day of the incident, after celebrating his wedding anniversary, Mohol was ambushed and shot by Polekar and two others, Vitthal Gandale and Namdeo Kangude, who were once his bodyguards.
They fired four bullets, three of which struck Mohol, in the Sutardara area of Kothrud. The assailants then fled towards Satara via the Mumbai-Bangalore highway.
It was revealed that the crime was rooted in a decade-old grudge over an insult and threat Mohol had directed at one of his assailants.
