Yah, agreed. High pay helps reduce temptations but cant prevent it totally.

More important are the character and motivation of the office holder.  If he is only going for high pay, then it is bad.

As we are humans trying to find another human to run the government, we don't have crystal ball eyes.  Even LKY with his trusted stalwart Lim Kim San who was said to be able to "see peepur" for who they are, their character, simply by talking with that person...they still got it wrong sometimes.  Boomers should remember Teh Cheang Wan...it's in the news, the Straits Times in print.
