S'pore is always No. 1 for all the wrong reasons! The staggering statistic is that we are double the 2nd ranked Phuket!

I thought one s'pore MP said Malaysia more expensive?

Who is telling the truth?

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) latest Worldwide Cost of Living survey, the most expensive cities in the world are:

* Singapore
* Zurich
* Geneva
* New York
* Hong Kong
* Los Angeles
* Paris
* Copenhagen
* Tel Aviv
* San Francisco

This ranking is based on the cost of over 160 items in each city, including groceries, transportation, utilities, rent, and recreation.

It's important to note that cost of living can vary greatly depending on individual lifestyle and spending habits.

S'pore has such a small land area, that cramping 6 million inhabitants has led to an extremely high demand and low supply of housing which drives up the cost for buyers and renters of homes. However, it seems obvious that our leaders are going for economic growth at all costs. Add to this S'pore's variety of high taxes on goods and services, as well as humongous fees for car ownership.

That is what SG's private specialists and hospitals declared when medical tourists complained of overcharging here. The result is that we priced ourselves out of the region, and medical tourism as a driver of the economy, lost its lustre.
