Why MAS chief offers to step down only middle of 2023 (just after employment contract was extended) and not earlier?

It reflects badly, why MAS chief was kept in the dark for so long, and wasn't aware of money laundering investigation in progress at all..?

If this is true, then a 2 years lapse is a long time in a tiny island ( same time taken for a rocket travelling to Mars)?
