Singapore to Bangkok by bus and train....
#1

My friend ask me if I want to go to Bangkok. I have never been there and not really keen....what's there to see there anyway. My friend said can see may historic sights, Palace visit Ayutthaya. I told him I will consider. But after some checks I think the risk of flying there  may not be worth it. They use those small 737 planes and these my not be stable in the air and prone to incidents.

The alternative would be to go by bus and train. But the journey will take longer.  Anyone travel to Bangkok this way.
before?
Overall is cheaper than flying.

I have been to Bangkok once with my friends back in Oct 1987 Market Crash. We took the coach to Hatyai - late afternoon, reached Hatyai dawn or early morning - window shopping and discotheque, then to Pattaya beach - by Tutut - watch boxing by young thai boys, tried the firing range , then head to Bangkok by taxi - visit Palace, massage. Back to Singapore by flight.

It is worth trying if you have the time. The coach is usually the Super VIP type more comfortable than you travel to Genting. It is an eye-opener when you go to those places where tourists don't go. The seafood was very much cheaper though it had been many years ago when the Thailand custom had a zinc roof on top. Everything just got bigger, better and cheaper than in Malaysia. The waterfall just gets bigger. The clam and the longan...

If the HSR is built, you can travel even further after Thailand.

I have been to Bangkok by bus once and a return trip from Bangkok to Penang by train before. The trips were very tiring and really not worth unless you are the type that can fall asleep easily and in the sitting position.
From Bangkok to Penang I managed to get a cabin with bed and that was quite nice. However, on the return trip from Penang to Bangkok, my cabin was hijacked by a Thai custom officer who travelled with the train and had priority. I ended up sitting from from Penang to Bangkok which was very uncomfortable and angry because my cabin was taken away from me. Of course I got a refund for the cabin after offsetting the difference for seat. So this is one thing you must be awared if you travel by Thai trains. Your seats can be hijacked for their government officials last minute if they embarked suddenly.    Big Grin

Don't think I was born in a rich family. I was born in attap house and my father was just a hotel waiter.

I got my education thru parent but also own part-time working and study loan.

All my trips were my own money and business trips by companies.

You have not answered my earlier question. Your monies you have need to feed wife, children and elderly parents or not? This is important becuz based on so many countries you visit sure need to use monies but if you need to feed wife, children and elderly parents I wonder achievable unless you earn a lot of monies. Business trips depend on employer some is tight schedule leaving you no time to rest & recreation as you need to rush back but if you are in a good company then yes you enjoy rest & recreation after your work.

We were accosted to one such place up a flight of stairs in one night exploration in Bangok.  I can't wait to get out barely 10 mins inside the dimly lit joint. As we entered we could see in the distance  on the stage a tiger show in progress. The guy doing push-up with the girl on the floor-stage looking our way. It was quite a pitiful sight on the girl face.   We took our seats and ordered beers. Soon some girls approached us and requested us to buy them a glass of beer. We politely declined and showing no interest they let us alone. I was relief they did not insist. We were worried  that there will be other girls approaching us so we quickly finished our beers and ask for the bill. I can't remember how much the bill was but it was definitely not the amount mentioned to us when we were accosted downstairs. We pointed to the waiter on the discrepancy. He insisted that was the correct bill amt and went off. We noticed then that a guy (possibly a bouncer) moved into position at the exit door. We precluded that we wld not leave safely if we do not pay the bill amt stated. To avoid any trouble we decided to settle the bill amt as stated since it is not exorbitant. We finished our last gulp, settled our bill and walk out safely.

That's not a bus. The correct word is "coach".

It can be reclined and the seats are wide and comfortable.

KTM is terrible. Hard seats and you sit upright like sitting in the MRT.
