A restaurant in Singapore has started imposing a surcharge of 10 Singapore dollars (approximately US$7) to customers with a “noisy and disruptive” child.

Angie's Oyster Bar & Grill, which is situated at Outram Road, sparked controversy among Singaporean parents after a customer shared details about the purported policy with local media.

The customer was informed of the surcharge after requesting a baby chair while making a reservation at the restaurant. The restaurant offered a space for a pram and noted that since the venue is not a kid-friendly establishment, they could not provide a baby chair.

According to the customer, the restaurant added that while children are still welcome, a $7 surcharge will be imposed on families with children who are "screaming," "uncontrolled" or disruptive to other diners.

If I am the restaurant owner I will build a big monkey cage for the parents to store their kids there

Does it mean that with the surcharge the children can scream and shriek as much as they like?

actually the restaurant purpose of the note to customer was to discourage her fr making that reservation. i mean the restaurant cldnt come up with a better phrase than 'screaming children' surcharge meh!

While I can agree that the negative externality is a concern, why is the restaurant gaining from that client but is the compensation given to the other clients that got affected by it?? Lol

Just another case of trying to charge more?
