Why is the SG Govt absorbing unemployed Indian white collar workers - many with dubious qualifications - when so many S'porean fresh graduates report that the job market appears to be really bad? Competition is fierce, with more than 100 applicants often vying for the same roles, based on listings that our youngsters have seen on networking site LinkedIn. Even though many vacancies were labelled as entry-level, our young job applicants report that most employers are unwilling to hire a fresh grad with limited or no professional experience.

The so-called "S'poreans First" policy is another lie! A staggering 95% of jobs created in 2023 and 89% in 2022 went to foreigners, and 93% of respondents in the Edelman survey suffer from job loss anxiety here. The Govt must stop lying to the people if they wish to be re-elected.

Public sentiment towards the Govt has shifted, despite its historical successes. A range of factors, including economic pressures, social concerns and political dynamics, have contributed to this growing discontent. Rising costs of living, income inequality, and a perceived lack of political competition have eroded public trust.

Additionally, issues such as the treatment of migrant workers, mental health and youth unemployment have sparked public debate and criticism. The govt’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic has further exacerbated these concerns, highlighting vulnerabilities in S'pore’s social safety net. As S'poreans become more discerning and demand greater accountability, the PAP govt faces increasing pressure to address these challenges and adapt to the evolving needs of its citizens.

Foreign direct investment may be a powerful driver of economic growth and job creation if managed well. While foreign companies may bring some of their own personnel, they are typically required to hire a significant proportion of local employees. This practice is common across various industries and jurisdictions. By striking a balance between attracting foreign investment and protecting local jobs, S'pore can continue to thrive in the global economy; it is appalling how our govt has failed to ensure this. It seems like our overrated and overpaid ministers have been sleepwalking through negotiations with India over CECA; our politicians have been outsmarted, outthought and outclassed at the negotiation table.

Another concern is that the govt has been slow to clear the air and "less than upfront" with S'poreans in dealing with potentially embarrassing issues involving their own ministers and MPs. In recent years, there has been the privacy concerns of TraceTogether, the rental of the Ridout Road state properties to 2 ministers, ex-Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin and former MP Cheng Li Hui’s affair and the corruption probe involving Transport Minister S Iswaran which was downgraded. Whenever a minister is unable to come up with a satisfactory response to queries by the Opposition, they use excuses like revealing the truth would not be helpful or it would harm the social compact. What happened to "honest governance"?
