Slovakia likely to hand over MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine

On the eve of a peace conference in Switzerland. Russia has not been invited, Putin set out a series of conditions wholly at odds with the terms demanded by Ukraine.

Putin says Russia will cease fire if Ukraine pulls troops from four regions. Friday, 14 Jun 2024.

"Conditions are simple,"listing full withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from entire territory of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions in eastern and southern Ukraine.
As soon as they declare in Kyiv that they are ready for such a decision and begin a real withdrawal of troops from these regions, and also officially announce the abandonment of their plans to join NATO - on our side, immediately, literally at the same minute, an order will follow to cease fire and begin negotiations," he said.

"I repeat, we will do this immediately. Naturally, we will simultaneously guarantee the unhindered and safe withdrawal of Ukrainian units and formations."

Russia controls nearly a fifth of Ukrainian territory in the third year of the war. Ukraine says peace can only be based on a full withdrawal of Russian forces and the restoration of its territorial integrity.

This weekend summit in Switzerland, which will be attended by representatives of more than 90 nations organisations, is expected to shy away from territorial issues and focus instead on matters such as food security and nuclear safety in Ukraine.  Kremlin has said the gathering will prove "futile" without Russia being represented.

Putin on West's 'theft' of Russia's assets will not go unpunished. Putin also said the country would cease fire and enter peace talks if Ukraine dropped its NATO ambitions.

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday (Jun 14) that plans by Western countries to provide Ukraine with loans using interest from Russian assets frozen abroad was theft and would not go unpunished.

Putin, speaking at a meeting with Foreign Ministry officials, said the way the West had treated Moscow showed that any country could fall victim to a similar Western asset freeze.

"Despite all the chicanery, theft will certainly remain theft. And it will not go unpunished".

"Now it is becoming obvious to all countries, companies (and) sovereign funds that their assets and reserves are far from safe in both the legal and economic sense of the word. "Anyone could be next in line for expropriation by the US and the West." Putin was speaking a day after the leaders of the Group of Seven major democracies agreed on an outline deal to provide US$50 billion of loans for Ukraine using interest from Russian sovereign assets frozen after Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine in 2022 in what it called a special military operation.

"We live on the same continent. No matter what happens, you cannot change the geography, we will have to coexist and work together one way or another."

Russia's move on Kharkiv has bogged down.
2 weeks after Russia’s move on Ukraine’s 2nd-largest city stopped moving, meeting fierce resistance from a number of hardened Ukrainian brigades and specialist units sent there from the eastern and southern fronts.

Kyiv declared forces had gone on counterattack in some areas, particularly around the border town of Vovchansk with U.S. majority weapon of which Ukrainian forces control as of June 13, according to open source info. By June 8, Presiden Zelensky declared Russia had “failed” in its offensive on Kharkiv, b'ccs Ukrainian forces were effectively “holding and destroying” the enemy in the area.

Making a judgment regarding the failure or success of an operation depends on the initial strategic goals of the operation in the first place.
Analysts and officials were generally in agreement that Russian forces had little to no chance — and thus no intent — to actually surround or enter Kharkiv itself.

“It's not surprising that the Kharkiv offensive did not advance that far,” said military expert Rob Lee, senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, to the Kyiv Independent, “because we knew that Ukraine had a better defense prepared and we knew pretty early on that Ukraine moved a number of units to strengthen that defense.”

Results on the ground -- As of June 13,

Open source mapping project DeepStateMap, Russian forces have occupied at least 183 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in Kharkiv Oblast, with more territory labeled as a contested “gray zone.”

The gains made are split roughly evenly between two axes.

Immediately north of Kharkiv, Russian forces advanced a maximum distance of around ten kilometers, eventually being stopped outside the village of Lyptsi, itself around 20 kilometers from the Northern Saltivka neighborhood on the outskirts of Kharkiv.

Russia’s failure to get any closer means that Kharkiv remains outside the range of all of Russia’s abundant conventional tubed artillery, as well as Grad multiple-launch rocket artillery, preventing the same kind of wanton barrages the city suffered in the first month of the full-scale invasion from being possible again.

On the other axis further east, fighting continues for Vovchansk, over 70% of which is under the control of Ukrainian forces, according to Nazar Voloshyn, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Khortysia group of forces.

Well-coordinated with electronic attacks that allegedly disabled the Starlink communications of some of the Ukrainian units defending the town, Russia’s early push found success initially, much thanks to the reported lack of properly prepared defensive lines in the areas along the border.

Putin is still dreaming so early June 14 as a condition to talk about peace, (NO PEACE TALK) for  negotiations, the mad man said. Ukrainian troops must leave Ukraine's Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

He also added that Ukraine must recognize Russia's illegal annexation of the regions and abandon any ambition to join NATO. (Sama Sama, same as like Israel talking to the terror Hamas).

Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts are partially controlled by Russian troops. Russia claims to have annexed the whole territory of those regions despite not controlling two regional capitals - Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.

Armored Personnel Carriers, Artillery Guns and More in New $250 mln Ukraine Military Aid Package From the U.S. New package of goods, the number of provided APCs alone is enough to mount six mechanized infantry battalions

Despite many of these items being listed without specification of the quantity provided, the Pentagon also released the regular update on the totality of all weapons Ukraine is about to receive or has already seen delivered. Ukraine Fact Sheet. A comparison of this document to the previous one issued May 24 reveals a bit more details.

In particular, behind vague words on M113 armored personnel carriers, as many as 200 vehicles are actually hidden; now total number of M113 committed by U.S. has increased to 600.

This's significant armored reinforcement to the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF), considering that Ukraine's soldiers had shared very favorable reviews about this versatile vehicle. These 200 units will be enough to equip six mechanized battalions of UAF Land Forces.

As for the 155mm howitzers, it is obviously about M777. Previously, exactly 198 units were mentioned as transferred, but now the number has been changed to the vague "more than 200." As for mortars package could include over 30 units because now it also says "more than 200" mortar systems in various calibers were committed, instead of the 169 units mentioned earlier with a breakdown by type.

Next, Ukraine will receive 10 coastal and riverine patrol boats, as well as more than 50 heavy trailers for transportation.

Thus, this is not just another ammunition package but a fairly high-quality strengthening of Ukraine's, capabilities with a significant number of APCs in the first place. Also, the transfer of additional artillery can be considered a marker of fact that supply of ammunition is reaching a stable level.

Trying And Failing To Cross A River In Vovchansk, 400 Russian Troops Got Cut Off. Now They’re Surrendering. Ukrainian forces have captured dozens of Russian troops in the embattled town of Vovchansk, just south of the Russia-Ukraine border, dealing a major setback to Russia’s faltering northern offensive. Russia’s northern offensive isn’t going well.

400 Russian Troops Got Cut Off. Now They’re Surrendering. Ukrainian forces have captured dozens of Russian troops in embattled town of Vovchansk, just south of the Russia-Ukraine border, fighting as many as 400 Russians in and around a chemical plant in central Vovchansk. Thirty Russians surrendered after repeated attempts to rescue them failed.

On May 10, a force of tens of thousands of Russian troops opened a new front in Russia’s 28-mth wider war on Ukraine. Attacking south across Russia-Ukraine border, battalions quickly captured a chain of lightly defended border villages then advanced on Vovchansk, first big town between the border and city of Kharkiv, 25 miles to the south. It was there in Vovchansk that the Ukrainians chose to stand fight.

The Russians rallied equivalent least 2 battalions with hundreds of infantry stormed Volchansky chemical plant, on the Vovcha River’s right bank. Factories & other industrial facilities are fighting in Ukraine, their big sturdy buildings can shelter troops protect them from artillery and drones.

Russians’ plan was apparently capture chemical plant then, from there, launch a river-crossing operation in order to force their way into southern Vovchans. Plan failed as Ukrainian troops from 9th Rifle Battalion, plus Russian Volunteer Corps or 36th Marine Brigade—attacked west of the chemical plant and advanced several blocks to north, cutting off Russians in the plant from their comrades to the west.
Reply

Continue from above....
Elements of several Ukrainian brigades including elite 82nd Air Assault Brigade—rushed north &, in several weeks of hard fighting, blocked Russian advance north of Vovcha River, which threads from east to west through central Vovchansk.

Russians are surrounded here with zero chances of reinforcements, Ukrainian drone operator crowed, “bunch of dead & wounded orcs,” added, using a slang term for Russian soldiers, their commanders knew they were in trouble. This weekend, they ordered their troops west of the chemical plant to fight through the Ukrainian positions. “Two attempts to break through to the surrounded Russian forces were repelled by the Ukrainian defense forces,” according to the Center for Defense Strategies.

That’s apparently when the surrounded Russians began surrendering en masse. While Russian and Ukrainian forces routinely capture each other, they rarely do so by dozen. The biggest captures tend to take place during major urban sieges and chaotic hasty retreats.

Early in the war, hundreds of Ukrainian troops surrendered after holding out for weeks in the besieged southern city of Mariupol. Nearly 2 yrs later mid-February, advancing Russian regiments captured dozens of Ukrainians retreating from the ruins of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine.

That so many Russians surrendered at same time in Vovchansk, town that neither side fully controls which very much remains in contention, starting to startle Russian commanders. The Russian army get bogged down in Vovchansk. A certainly wasn’t supposed to lose potentially scores of 400 troops failed attempt to capture base attempt by crossing a narrow river in middle of the town. It go without saying 400 whatever, Russians’ goals when crossed border into northern Ukraine last mth, not only not achieving their prospects aim. They are even slipping away farther & fartger away as their forces as they get blocked, cut off and is forced to surrender.

Kyiv’s pilots have repeatedly hit Russian infantry battling to capture the northern town of Vovchansk with modern precision-guided bombs sent by Western allies, in a rare break from longstanding Ukrainian Air Force tactics of avoiding frontline battles and air space usually dominated by the Russian Air Force.

Combat video and both Ukrainian and Russian milbloggers confirmed at least eight laser- or GPS-guided munitions launched by Ukrainian strike aircraft hitting known Russian positions on the property of a parts machining factory in the Kharkiv region town in two separate attacks.

Image published by analytical June 17, showing probable fighting line locations, recent battlefield events and encircled Russian troops in the north Ukrainian town of Vovchansk. Both official Ukrainian and Russian sources have confirmed heavy fighting and Ukrainian air strikes.

Most reports identified munitions as GBU-39B bombs, a “small diameter” glide bomb designed by US aerospace giant Boeing fly upto 111 km & hit within 1-meter of an intended target reports identified weapon as ASSM HAMMER. A France-made glider bomb similar to GBU-39B. A few sources said weapon was a JDAMS, an older technology “bomb kit” developed by US to convert an unguided bomb into guided bomb.

Accord to open-source reports, Russian soldiers holding positions on premises Vovchansk Factory are effectively cut off & surrounded have varied widely how many Kremlin troops have been isolated degree by Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian and some independent sources variously estimated Russian force a few dozen to as 400 men.

As in many urban battles in the Russo-Ukrainian war, infantry combat in Vovchansk has been most intense around the locality’s tallest and most strongly built structures, often an industrial site with towers and high-rise buildings.

 (S'pore SAF must take note).

The usually reliable DeepState, a pro-Ukraine military information platform, said Russian forces attacking Vovchansk in mid-May were cut off by June 1 following partial encirclement by Ukrainian forces, placing Russian supply lines to the plant under heavy fire from Ukrainian machine guns, artillery and drones.
