"In combat, they would just charge forward from the tree line, like in a World War II movie," Ihorovych recalled. Assaults during World War II often had high casualty rates. He said his troops killed several North Korean soldiers they saw running from their positions. Ihorovych said his unit completed their operation without taking any losses, adding that the North Koreans were basically being used as "cannon fodder."

Trump's promise to end the conflict within 24 hours of taking office is a typically grandiose boast, comes from a man who has clearly lost patience with war & America's costly involvement.
"Numbers of dead young soldiers lying on fields all over the place are staggering," "crazy what's taking place." Incoming US admin faces twin challenges, Michael Kofman, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
"First, they're going to inherit a war on a very negative trajectory, without tremendous amount of time to stabilise situation," he said in Dec. "2nd, they're going to inherit a clear theory of success."
The president-elect offered some clues during recent interviews about how he intends to approach the war....
At beginning Russians throw all their remaining armored vehicles into offensive & assaults, hoping to seize as much land as all is about land b4 Trunp become U.S. president, so Ukrainian troops do everything to make every meter of land too expensive for Putin...he's greedy for land.

French: First French Mirage fighter jets reportedly arrive in Ukraine — here's what they can do. French Mirage 2000-5s fighter jets pledged to Kyiv have arrived in Ukraine, French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu said on Feb. 6. "On June 6, 2024, (French President) Emmanuel Macron announced delivery of French Mirage 2000 to Ukraine. A first of these arrived in Ukraine today," Lecornu said in a post on social media.
"With Ukrainian pilots trained for several months in France on board, they will now participate in defending Ukraine's sky," he added. Macron announced plans for their delivery to Ukraine in June, saying that France would also provide training to Ukrainian pilots and staff. He did not reveal how many aircraft France plans to send in total. Mirage 2000, a fourth-generation multirole supersonic jet. With over 600 aircraft produced across all variants, it serves 9 countries, available in single- and twin-seat variants.
The Mirage 2000-5, introduced in 1999, represents an upgraded version featuring advanced avionics, enhanced firing capabilities for both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, and a modern sensor and control system. “The (Mirage 2000)-5 variant has a high-quality radar, (is) fitted with drop tanks, has a reasonable range, carries a range of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons,” Kyiv Independent report.

The situation in the Kharkiv region remains critical as Russian forces continue their attempts to try to seize more land and new territories.

However, on Jan. 12, Yevgeny Romanov, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Kharkiv operational-tactical group, said that Russian forces had reduced their attacks in the Kharkiv sector.
“I believe this decrease is because they are now concentrating on other areas of the front and cannot operate effectively in the Kharkiv region,” Romanov said, adding that their focus had shifted to the Russian forces’ right flank.

Shortage of Armored Vehicles Forces Russian Troops to Assault in Civilian Cars, in motor cycle and horses.
The continuing war in Ukraine has resulted in a serious shortage of Russian operational armored vehicles forcing some frontline units to attack in unmodified civilian cars.
The open-source intelligence group Oryx has compiled statistics that show, since its 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost a nearly 11,000 armored vehicles, including more than 3,500 tanks, 5,000 armored personnel carriers, 1,000 self-propelled artillery, and almost 300 howitzers.Speaking in 2023 Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, said: “This year alone, we will produce 1,500 tanks.”
According to reports from Royal United Services Institute [RUSI] around 85% of Russian tanks & armored vehicles deployed to front since his claim are not newly manufactured but “mothballed” equipment brought from long-term storage – those are running short too.
Recent satellite imagery shows depots such as Vaghzhanovo depot in Buryatia have been stripped almost 1/2 it stocks seen be4 invasion. Most of equipment is decades old & much has been shipped directly to the battlefield without modernization or refurbishment.
Even the limited numbers of “new builds,” including T-80 & T-90 main battle tanks, have fielded without critical components, such as explosive reactive armor laser-guided targeting systems.

Trump discussed his administration’s effort to end war in an interview with Fox News aired Monday, ahead of a meeting tabled for this week between his vice president, JD Vance, Ukrainian President Zelensky. “They (Ukraine) may make a deal, may not make a deal. They may be Russian someday, or they may not be Russian someday,” Trump said. He stressed that he also wanted to see a return on investment with US aid for Ukraine, again floating dea of a trade for Kyiv’s rare earth minerals. U.S. president’s comments will likely delight Kremlin, who illegally annexed four Ukrainian regions since launching its full-scale invasion and seeks Ukraine’s total submission. “A significant part of Ukraine wants to become Russia, & fact that it has already become Russia is (undeniable),” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters Tuesday, when asked about Trump’s comments.
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, it believed it would capture the capital Kyiv in days and the rest of the country in weeks. With the war set to enter its fourth year later this month, Moscow holds around a fifth of Ukraine’s territory. In 2023, it held a sham referendum in four occupied regions – Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson – in attempt to lend legitimacy to its annexation. Fox News interview, Trump said his admin had made “tremendous progress” in laying ground for potential peace talks with Russia and Ukraine. Zelensky said Monday “some serious people” from Trump admin will visit Ukraine this week ahead of Munich Security Conference in Germany, where Zelensky is meeting with Vance.
Trump repeated his interest in reaping a return on US assistance for Kyiv. “They have tremendously valuable land in terms of rare earth, in terms of oil and gas, in terms of other things. I want to have our money secured,” he said. “I told them that I want equivalent, like $500 billion of rare earth, & they’ve essentially agreed to do that, so at least we don’t feel stupid. Otherwise we’re stupid. I said to them, we have to get something.
Whereas the Biden admin said its support for Kyiv was to defend “the right of people to determine their own futures,” & to maintain “principle that a country can’t change its neighbor’s borders by force,” Trump’s comments reinforce his more transactional approach to geopolitics.

US Trump has said he had a "lengthy highly productive" phone call with Vladimir Putin on Wednesday in which leaders agreed to begin negotiations to end war in Ukraine. On his Truth Social platform, Trump said, his Russian president had "agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately". Calls with warring sides came as both Trump and his defence secretary said it was unlikely Ukraine would join Nato, which will come as a bitter disappointment to Kyiv.

US should not have made concessions to Russia says German minister.
The US should not have made concessions to Russia in advance of peace negotiations by ruling out Nato membership for Ukraine and accepting the country would have to forfeit some of its territory, Germany’s defence minister has said.
Boris Pistorius, arriving at a meeting of Nato defence ministers in Brussels, echoed European frustrations in the aftermath of Donald Trump’s declaration on Wednesday that he was ready to negotiate with Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin.
“In my view it would have been better to speak about a possible Nato membership for Ukraine or possible losses of territory at the negotiating table,” Pistorius said. His comments were echoed by his French counterpart, Sébastien Lecornu, who warned against “peace through weakness” as he arrived at Nato headquarters, rather than the “peace through strength” formulation nominally favoured by Trump.

It Seems A Ukrainian Agent Traveled 300 Miles Across Russia To Plant Explosives Under A High-Tech Russian Drone-Jammer Near MoscowThe attack reportedly destroyed two components of the Valdai anti-drone system. Russia developed one of the world’s most sophisticated anti-drone vehicles—and deployed it to the Moscow area to protect the city from Ukrainian drone raids. The brand-new system, apparently quite rare in Russian service, combined passive radio detectors, infrared sensors, radar and radio noisemakers to detect & jam hard-to-detect small drones from as far away as 6-miles. Lianozovo Electromechanical factory in Moscow began developing Valdai in 2016, first copy entered military service just 4-years ago. Even the most sophisticated anti-drone system is vulnerable to the most basic means of attack: someone walking up to it and planting a bomb. But there’s evidence Valdai is also vulnerable to the very same drones it’s supposed to detect and jam.
In 2022, a Ukrainian drone bombed appeared to be components of a Valdai somewhere near the front line in Ukraine. Why Ukrainians would target the Valdai in Dolgoprudny is obvious. Ukrainian forces are widening their campaign of deep strikes against Russian air bases, factories & oil facilities. Raids on Russian oil industry last mth may have suppressed as much as 10% of the country’s petroleum product production.
Ukraine fires cruise missiles at some of tougher targets, most of the deep strikes are carried out by Ukrainians’ ever-expanding portfolio of long-range drones, heaviest which can travel more than 1,000 miles with precision guidance—GPS or terrain-matching—an explosive payload, newest drones have ability to drop bomb & return to base, allowing them to be deployed for multiple raids be4 they crash or get shot down.
Defeating these drones is an urgent priority for Russians as their wider war on Ukraine grinds into 4th year, costs both military & industrial
mount. Defeating means by defeats the drones is an urgent priority for them.
