Videos of Russian soldiers appearing to surrender en masse suggest inexperience and desperation, experts say. Videos shoe Russian soldiers surrendering to Ukrainian troops taking territory. An expert said footage suggests soldiers are not combat-experienced. Ukraine is advancing in Russia's Kursk region.

Many are green soldiers surrendering to Ukrainian troops on Russian soil suggest that those soldiers are desperate and inexperienced, warfare experts said. The Washington Post reviewed more than 130 photos and videos taken since Ukraine's surprise invasion of Russia's Kursk region began on August 6th. Russia was slow to react to the Ukraine invasion, allowing several days to pass before it diverted enough troops to slow the incursion. Its leaders were said to have ignored intelligence of a Ukrainian military build-up on the border.

Dara Massicot, a Russian military expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told the publication: "My instinct upon seeing videos was those soldiers were not combat-experienced troops, have been fighting inside Ukraine." Most of those videos seen by Post appeared to have been filmed by Ukrainian soldiers & shared by social media, outlet said. Business Insider could not independently verify.

Massicot told the Post: "It's been a long time since I've seen a video of Russian soldiers surrendering en masse like that." Post visuals if verified showed Ukraine had captured at least 247 Russian soldiers in the region comparison, be4 Kursk invasion, Russian Putin said Ukraine was holding 1,348 Russian soldiers.

The commander of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, reported this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

Video of the day....The mother of the deceased pilot Andriy Pilshchikov was allowed to sit in the cockpit of the F-16 fighter jet her son dreamed of flying. Ukrinform reports. He recalled he had promised the woman to “at least sit” in the F-16 at farewell ceremony for the pilot in August last year.
Unfortunately, Juice was not able to wait for his deployment to the US for training. And today his mother is in the cockpit of F-16. She continues her son's work & will do everything to make our wings stronger,” the commander noted.

As reported by Ukrinform, on August 25 last year, two L-39 aircraft collided in the sky over Zhytomyr region while performing a combat mission. The collision killed three pilots of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade: Majors Viacheslav Minka and Serhiy Prokazin, as well as Captain Andriy Pilshchikov, call sign Juice. The Ukrainian Air Force later said that Pilshchikov had been dreaming of F-16s in the Ukrainian sky.

Ukrainian pilots fly F-16 warplanes in combat first time in fight against Russia

WASHINGTON — Ukraine has begun using F-16 warplanes in combat as Russia has mounted a massive aerial assault on civilian infrastructure, according to a U.S. official.

F-16s are the most sophisticated weapon the U.S.-led coalition has supplied Ukraine in its war with Russia. The White House and Pentagon had resisted offering them, fearing that they would be seen as an escalation by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

U.S. allies supplied the fighter jets, and Ukrainian pilots have been training for months in the United States to fly them. The first F-16s arrived in Ukraine early in August. The official who confirmed their use in combat was not authorized to speak publicly.

Why Russia has struggled to halt Ukraine’s incursion in the Kursk region. August 29, 2024 -- After 3-weeks of fighting, Russia is still struggling to dislodge Ukrainian forces from the Kursk region, a surprisingly slow and low-key response to the first occupation of its territory since World War II.

It all comes down to Russian manpower and Russian priorities. With the bulk of its military pressing offensives inside Ukraine, the Kremlin appears to lack enough reserves for now to drive out Kyiv’s forces.

President Vladimir Putin doesn’t seem to view the attack — or at least, give the impression that he views it — as a grave enough threat to warrant pulling troops from eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region, his priority target. He focus is on the collapse of the Ukrainian state, but he believes will automatically render any territorial control irrelevant,” wrote a senior fellow at the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center.

Russia attacks Kyiv for third time in one week. Debris from intercepted Russian drones damaged several buildings in Kyiv overnight on Aug. 29, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported. This comes as the third large-scale aerial attack by Russia against the capital in the past four days. Several explosions could be heard in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast amid an air raid alert. Air defense had been active in most of central and northern Ukraine. Drone debris reportedly fell in at least three districts of the capital, causing a fire in one of the affected areas. First responders have been dispatched to the scene.

In the Holosiivskyi district, drone debris damaged the doors and windows of one of the apartments. No casualties were reported, according to the mayor. Kyiv remains a frequent target of the Russian attacks. On Aug. 26, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack against Ukraine, killing seven people, injuring nearly 50 others, and targeting the country's energy infrastructure.

This Kursk op also weaken West's fears of escalating of wider war as invasion on Russian territory did not lead to any consequences like a nuclear war or a conflict with NATO. Kursk incursion & Crimea strikes could ease some pressure on Ukraine’s Donbas Fores on going op in Kursk is first significant ground invasion of Russian territory by a foreign power since world war two, this is carried out directly by Ukrainian army units. Residents have recorded videos said authorities had not helped them to evacuate and called on Putin to interfere. Some more then 11,000 residents of nearby district in Russia's Belgorod Oblast have also left their homes, Governor said on Aug. 13.

Putin’s prestige -- Oreshkin says that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Kremlin trying to spread message saying Russia is “invincible & stronger than everyone," idea has been dealt a major blow."It's clear that things aren't going as well for Putin as he's trying to present it. "When he started the ‘special military op,’ he like tobe fast and painless and would bring fame but turned out to be lengthy, bloody and hopeless," political analyst based in Russia told Kyiv Independent Ukraine's control of Russian territory is a "very sensitive issue" for Putin, who "took it very hard." The analyst spoke on condition of anonymity due to fear of reprisals from state authoritiesHe thinks the Kursk incursion will not have any major domestic political consequences for Russia. "However, it's too early to draw conclusions – there have been no surveys or focus groups yet."
Kursk Oblast incursion would be ‘less necessary’ if Kyiv could strike deep in Russia with Western arms, Kyiv says

Destabilization? -- Speculation is rife on whether the Kursk operation will destabilize the political situation in Russia. Putin himself said that "the enemy will keep trying to destabilize the situation border zone in order to destabilize the domestic political situation in our country." As Russia has long been in a situation where anything can cause destabilization in an unpredictable way,” Russian political analyst Georgy Satarov told the Kyiv Independent.

Meanwhile, Kremlin has faced a backlash from the most hawkish & imperialist part of the population – pro-war bloggers. They have criticized Russia's leadership for failing to prepare for the Ukrainian operation and have fueled a panic mood.
Pro-war blogger Roman Alyokhin said on Telegram that he "just couldn’t believe what was happening" when he found out about the Ukrainian incursion.

Russia strikes Poltava with ballistic missiles, killing at least 47, injuring over 200

Russian forces launched two ballistic missiles against city of Poltava on Sep. 3, killing at least 47 and injuring 206 people, Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska said. An educational institution and a neighboring medical facility were hit in the attack, which also partially destroyed the building of the Military Institute of Communications, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"The time interval between the alarm and the arrival of the deadly missiles was so short that it caught people during an evacuation to the bomb shelter," the Defense Ministry said. Many people remain trapped under the rubble, while rescuers and medics continue to work at the scene. As of around 2 p.m. local time, the emergency services had rescued 25 people, 11 of whom were retrieved from the rubble, according to the ministry's statement. "We express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. This tragedy is yet another evidence of the enemy's cunning, which stops at no crime to try to intimidate Ukrainians," the ministry said.
