Street Maps in Japan are Confusing As North is not always on top

In the first map, N is to the left, in the second map N is to the southeast and in the last map N is pointing to the right.

Maps in MRT stations also have the same problem. But I think they indicate where north is in the map? Can't remember.

General speaking North is always on top but in Japan it is not the case, if you assume the top is North you will be confused.

Signboards of street map surely no need to follow North on top since no need compass........I never pay attention to where North is when reading them.

Some arrows are already enough.

When I was in Kyoto and reading street map, and I almost got it wrong as I didn’t realize the north is actually on the right…I suspect Japanese mindset is different from rest of the world, their street maps are not standardised in terms of direction and can be confusing for tourists.
