Lawrence Wong say more opposition in the parliament will weaken the gov

---

### **"A Weak Government Fears Opposition—A Strong One Thrives On It"**

Lawrence Wong’s argument isn’t about governance—it’s about **control**. If the PAP were truly confident in its policies, it wouldn’t fear debate. Instead, it clings to its supermajority like a security blanket, proving it **needs dominance, not merit**, to rule.

#### **1. If More Opposition Weakens Government, Then the PAP is Already Weak**
- By Wong’s logic, the PAP is so fragile that even a few WP MPs in Parliament (10 out of 93) could destabilize it. **Is the PAP that incompetent?**
- Strong governments (e.g., Germany, UK, NZ) survive with fierce oppositions. If Singapore’s system collapses without PAP hegemony, maybe the problem isn’t opposition—it’s **over-reliance on one party**.

#### **2. The Real Weakness? A Rubber-Stamp Parliament**
- Without opposition, bad policies slide through: **NKF scandals, AIM saga, GST hikes during inflation**.
- Even the PAP admits mistakes—**after the fact**. Opposition forces accountability **before** disasters happen.

#### **3. Fear of Opposition = Fear of Losing Power**
- The PAP doesn’t fear "weak governance"—it fears **losing unchecked power**.
- Why else change electoral rules (GRCs, NMPs), sue critics, and warn that opposition leads to "gridlock" (when WP has **zero** veto power)?

#### **4. Singapore Isn’t Special—Democracy Works Elsewhere**
- **"We’re unique"** is a tired excuse. Countries with strong oppositions (Sweden, Australia) outperform Singapore in transparency, happiness, and innovation.
- Even **China** allows more debate in its rubber-stamp parliament than the PAP does in ours.

#### **5. The Irony: PAP Weakens Itself by Resisting Opposition**
- The more the PAP **blocks alternative voices**, the more voters distrust it.
- **Result? Rising dissent (online, protests, younger voters flipping opposition).** The PAP’s refusal to adapt is its
 **real weakness**.

Today, Singapore is in a mess and politics is not as clean as country's image

Obviously more PAP will make situation worse.

This is very true. Been a major ruling party will makes them more arrogant and doing things like nobody business. No respect for citizens with such a behaviour. They must learn how to respect Oppositions in parliament, becos it is citizens that voted them. Having said this, no respect for Oppositions is equivalent to no respect to citizens. Just look at that flinging file woman. No wonder it ran to hide at another GRC.

Actually more opposition will make PAP wake up. You see them always chill in Parliament after get elected .

I tell you the SAME cycle repeat. You will see Parliament as SLEEPING place again if there is NO increase of opposition seats.

Hell No! FTs are here to complement us and the same goes for PaP. More Oppositions are here to complement you. We need Foreigners logic similarly is applied here where PaP need more Oppositions.
