"Against this background, FINMA confirms that Credit Suisse meets the special capital and liquidity requirements for systemically important banks," the statement continues. Finma and the SNB are following developments very closely and are in close contact with the Federal Department of Finance to ensure the stability of the Swiss financial system.

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne also asked the Swiss authorities on Wednesday  to solve the problems of CS . "This issue falls within the remit of the Swiss authorities. It must be regulated by them," the prime minister told the Senate, according to an AFP report. She also said in the afternoon that French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire would be in contact with his Swiss counterpart in the "next hours".

Credit Suisse stock took an unprecedented plunge on Wednesday. It lost up to 31 percent in value. The bank's bond prices also collapsed. The cost of default insurance rose to a record high.
