I think because DPP is a affiliate party of Japan DPP party and the VP thinks that many world leaders may appear in this funeral, and he wants to try to "shake" more hands in order to get more "supports" from world leaders.

But somehow it turn out to receive international high officials instead of leaders....so DPP did not gain any "credits" but more about them confirming that they are "little brother" of Japan's DPP party.

I am guessing that Mr. Lai will not be pleased with this visit....
