Pressure to ban Russian oil and gas imports is growing in the Western camp. Washington yesterday began negotiations with Venezuela, on which it has imposed sanctions on its oil exports since 2019, to increase its production while waiting for an Iranian nuclear agreement to lift restrictions on Iranian oil.

It was revealed by the New York Times on Sunday that a delegation of high-ranking officials from the Biden administration traveled to Caracas (Venezuela) to negotiate the lifting of economic sanctions imposed on the Bolivarian Republic, in particular the restrictions imposed by the Trump administration in 2019 on oil exports.

Venezuelan President Nicolàs Maduro confirmed the meeting on Monday evening, calling it "respectful, cordial and diplomatic" , without going into detail on the issues discussed.
