Tampines resident and wheelchair-bound mother stranded as all HDB lifts fail; emergency hotline unanswered

On 9 June, a Tampines woman went live on TikTok after she and her wheelchair-bound mother were stranded due to a full lift breakdown. She said repeated calls to the emergency hotline went unanswered. Technicians eventually arrived and traced the issue to a faulty fire alarm box, according to her.

Happened to my block before. One lift undergoing upgrading. The other failed. A lot of old folks stranded downstairs for an hour plus as it is very difficult for them to climb more than 10 storeys up.

Fortunately the guy doing the upgrading of the other lift took a look and fixed it although it is not his job.
