There are many "electric cars" at that time...in fact the pioneer was GE that had a car called Delta in 1968.
GE's EV1 was on trial for 3yrs 1996 to 1999.
Without Elon Musk, the company would just fade away it is the bold vision of musk that took the company where it is. Many funders will fiannce Musk but not the other 2 unknown founders.
The others guys now have hundreds of millions because of Elon Musk growing the company so rapidly.
