The Ferrari-driving, Instagram-savvy billionaire royal living next to Singapore is about to become one of the most powerful people in Malaysia. But even before officially taking the job, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar is already stirring controversy.
The extent to which Sultan Ibrahim displays his riches — and speaks out on issues traditionally reserved for elected politicians — makes him unique among Malaysia’s nine hereditary rulers, who rotate the role of head of state among them every five years.
