The Tongue White House notified the Kremlin of Joe Biden’s intention to visit Kyiv hours before he departed for Ukraine, it has been revealed, as the details began to emerge of how the US president pulled off his high-profile diplomatic coup.

Meticulously planned over several months by a tight circle of key advisers, Biden’s visit was described as “unprecedented in modern times” by his national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, on the grounds that it was the first time a US president had visited “the capital of the country at war where the United States military does not control the critical infrastructure”.

“We did notify the Russians that President Biden will be travelling to Kyiv,” Sullivan said. “We did so some hours before his departure for deconfliction purposes, and because of the sensitive nature of those communications I won’t get into how they responded or what the precise nature of our message was, but I can confirm that we provided that notice.”

The US informed Moscow to avoid any misunderstanding or misjudgment between the two nuclear-armed powers, according to accounts from Washington.

Biden crossed into Ukraine at about 10pm on Sunday night, having quietly boarded a train in the Polish town of Przemyśl. His motorcade pulled up alongside his carriage allowing him to board unseen. His security detail took up most of the train’s eight carriages.

According to a pool reporter on board, the journey through the night was uneventful with a few stops, at least one of which was to take on additional security guards. The train arrived at Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi station at 8am on Monday.

The US president, Joe Biden, walks along the train platform in Kyiv on his visit to see his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Biden took the final decision to go on Friday after huddling with his top aides in the Oval Office. Much of the trip until the final train ride had been shrouded in subterfuge.

The journalist and photographer accompanying the president were sworn to secrecy and notified of the rendezvous arrangements under the title: “Arrival instructions for the golf tourney.” Prior to departure they had to hand over their phones, which were not returned until arrival in Kyiv.

Eschewing the presidential Air Force One jet, Biden boarded an Air Force C-32, a modified Boeing 757 normally used for domestic trips to smaller airports with the call sign SAM060, for Special Air Mission. Prior to departure, the plane sat in a dark corner of Andrews airbase with its shades down, and it took off shortly after 4am on Sunday morning.

Refuelling at Ramstein in Germany, Biden’s plane turned off its transponder for the roughly hour-long flight to Rzeszów, Poland, an airport that has served as the gateway for billions of dollars in western arms and VIP visitors into Ukraine. From Rzeszów, the president and his entourage were taken by motorcade on the hour’s drive to the train station at Przemyśl.

Other foreign leaders who have come to Ukraine, including the former British prime minister Boris Johnson and the French president, Emmanuel Macron, have also come in by train from Poland – a route used by journalists, aid workers and diplomats, with Ukraine’s civilian airspace closed for the past year.

Biden was met by the US ambassador to Kyiv, Bridget Brink, and taken in a convoy of vehicles which sped through closed-off roads to his meeting with Zelenskiy, using armoured vehicles that appeared to have been brought in discreetly in advance.

US presidents visiting war zones is not unheard of: three visited Iraq, including Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump, in what were seen at the time as major security operations. Barack Obama, Trump and George W Bush also visited Afghanistan.

But compared with Kabul and the US Bagram airbase, which hosted visits, Ukraine was viewed as a very different proposition.

That, White House officials are saying, is the distinction between this trip and previous presidential visits to Afghanistan and Iraq. In those countries, there was a massive US military presence, but there is none in Ukraine, and a minimal diplomatic presence.

The active war zone is surveilled by Moscow’s electronic warfare aircraft, with Ukrainian society penetrated by Russian agents.

The risks were apparent from the outset and planned for over “a period of months” by a handful of Biden’s closest aides with input from the NSC, the White House’s military office, the Pentagon, state department, and the intelligence community.

After Moscow was informed of Biden’s trip, a Russian MiG 30 flew from Belarus, triggering an air raid alarm across Ukraine.

If that flight was deliberate, it backfired, with the sirens audible during Biden’s visit serving only to underline his resolve.

Describing the visit, Sullivan added: “That required a security operational logistical effort from professionals across the US government to take what was an inherently risky undertaking and make it a manageable level of risk.”

“But of course, there was still risk and is still risk in an endeavour like this, and President Biden felt that it was important to make this trip because of the critical juncture that we find ourselves at as we approach the one-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.”

Summary of one man dream: for Putin.

Russia’s bold plan was initially to quickly gain Hostomel Airport outside of Kyiv, for Putin arrival of his elite rapid forces. then follow quick seizure or assassination of Ukraine’s leadership in Kyiv, abd leaving the Ukraine in throes of chaos. That’s is called a “special military operation.”

Then Russian paratroopers and special operations forces were done, the large, combined force concentrated along the Ukrainian border will complete to overrun and occupy the disorganized nation, little no fight from a demoralized Ukrainian military.

That’s why we now have stories of Russian combat formations having their parade uniforms packed, ready for triumphant marches in downtown Kyiv. We have stories of Russia’s Rosgvardia militarized police units carrying basically nothing but sticks and shields to beat protesters.

But the quick jump at Hostomel completely failed due to totally unexpected organized resistance. In fact, this sudden failure undermined the whole Russian plan from the beginning.

Russia has yet to officially declare war so can open mobilization for whole country soldiers to gear up. If proven Germany and other nation soldiers are fighting in Ukraine without official declaration then Russia may resort to that and who knows nuclear option reconsidered. US and Europe better be prepared.

Over the past year, leaders in the West have tried to cajole China to help them end the Ukraine war. Now Beijing has given its firmest response yet - and it's not something many in the West would like.

In recent days, China has launched an assertive charm offensive, kicking off with top diplomat Wang Yi's tour of Europe, which culminated in a warm welcome by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Beijing has released not one but two position papers - the first offering the Chinese solution to the war, and the other outlining a plan for world peace. These largely retread China's talking points from the past year, calling for respect for sovereignty (for Ukraine) and the protection of national security interests (for Russia), while opposing the use of unilateral sanctions (by the US).

The West may come away unimpressed - but convincing them was never likely the main goal for Beijing. China's goal: send a clear message to US.

Firstly, it clearly seeks to position itself as a global peacemaker. An obvious clue about who it's really trying to charm lies in one of its papers, where it mentions engaging South East Asia, Africa and South America - the so-called Global South.

Tatyana Popova recorded an interview with Oleksandr Vdovychenko – Commander of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade.

- POPOVA: How did you know there a war?

- VDOVYCHENKO: Starting in early 2022, there was a premonition that there would be a war. Everyone expected a full-scale invasion on February 22, 2022.

And On February 23, I was diagnosing left flank of the brigade's defense (Right Bank Ukraine). I am came Borodianka, to stopped in Gostomel for gas station, and I received a message that tomorrow probability, Russian Federation would launch full-scale invasion of Kyiv across from Republic of Belarus.

I went to my room, fall asleep and woke up with rockets exploding in Bila Tserkva and near our town. Minutes later, phone rang and commander of Ukrainian Ground Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, called me and said: "It's war, go to Kyiv". I gathered the list No. 1 brigade's command and control center.

- POPOVA: As commander of the brigade defending Kyiv?. Now you are presented in the General Staff.

VDOVYCHENKO. The 72nd Brigade timewas the only mechanized full-time brigade received combat order to defend Kyiv. Other many units were transferred to us. Territorial Defense unit, a National Guard unit, a Special Operations Forces unit, a GUR unit, and Self-Defense units. They performed their tasks in 72nd Brigade's defense line. While the tasks were being clarified in Kyiv on February 24-25-26, the 72nd Brigade was performing its intended task from the first minutes of the full-scale invasion. We stood up & occupied specified defense line, and we did not retreat from it. Clapping

VDOVYCHENKO: There were heavy battles in Irpin. The Territorial Defense unit, the GUR, the SSO, Alpha, the National Guard, a unit of 72nd Brigade, was constantly engaging artillery, tanks and motorized infantry, also worked in unison with them. And Russians realized they would not be able to enter Kyiv through Horenka and Irpin, they attempt to established a bridgehead with Moshchyn and Huta-Mezhyhirska. They set pontoons there and began to bring their equipment when they encountered resistance, they also tried go to Zhytomyr highwayMakariv, here, where we are. There was resistance from territorial defense unit, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were ready to meet them here and they could not disperse their forces. They concentrated everything they had in the direction of Moshchun

Everyone who cared, everyone who wanted to defend their future, took part in the battles for Kyiv, and we did. We were united and strong, no matter what the enemy was, no matter what the problems were, no matter what the enemy's attempts to break the resistance of the defenders of Kyiv.

I knew that the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Serhiy Shaptala, were behind me, and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief was behind us. The whole nation was watching what was happening near Kyiv.

There were heavy battles near Chernihiv, Sumy, in the east of Ukraine, in the south of Ukraine. It still all the main forces and everything that was best was concentrated in the battles for Kyiv. Everyone understood that if the capital fell, further developments could be unpredictable.

When the Russian invasion began on 24 February 2022, the world eagerly watched on. Numerous international media outlets predicted that Ukraine would fall.

Ukraine probably cannot hold off Russia forever,” read a headline from Foreign Policy Magazine. “If Kharkiv falls, Ukraine falls,” claimed despite these doom and gloom approaches,

The Ukrainians persevered. In February and till 2023, Ukrainians withstood the Russian incursion. Then, in Only one month, and to April 2022, the Ukrainians launched a massive  counter-offensive.

The Ukrainian successfully forced the Russians out of the northern part of the country. Then, over the course of the year, the Ukrainians reclaimed ten of thousands of many square miles of territory in eastern and southern Ukraine. Clapping

Throughout the war, the Ukrainians have shown that they are determined to win this war. Their grit and teeth resilience have demonstrated that they will do anything to defend their country, and they will not stop halfway. Rotfl

This has had a profound impact on the international community.  Clapping Clapping

US military assistance package includes more ammunition for U.S. HIMARS and howitzers, which Ukraine is using so effectively to defend itself, as well as ammunition for Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles.

To Bust Putin Soldiers.... Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov write to the 27 counterparts member states to provide Kyiv 250,000 artillery shells a month is not easing critical shortage that limits his country's progress on the battlefield, Kyiv Independent reported.

He country’s forces are "only firing a fifth of the rounds b'cos of lack of supplies. The request far exceeds the help EU is discussing to sending.

Reznikov said. Artillery plays “crucial role in eliminating enemy’s military power.” On average, Ukraine was firing 110,000 155mm-calibre shells a month. Not enough.
