A Wellington developer behind 1500 homes around the capital is for the first time walking away from an affordable house build due to rising compliance costs.
Two years ago Brent Slater built six homes in the Wellington suburb of Thorndon which cost $5600 per square metre to construct. But he is giving up on a similar six-home development on Mt Pleasant Rd above Aro Valley because quotes from builders came in between $9600 and $10,000 per square metre.
