UK: Prime Minister Johnson rejects further relaxation of visa requirements
#1

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has rejected calls for further easing of visa requirements for Ukrainians fleeing the war, even though sources at the interior ministry previously suggested otherwise.

Johnson said Britain is "a very generous country" but that he wants to keep control of who comes into its territory. "I think it makes sense, given what is happening in Ukraine, to make sure we have some basic ability to check who's coming," added the British Prime Minister.

On Sunday, a lot of consternation was caused by the information provided by the Ministry of the Interior that Ukrainian refugees who use the visa path for people with relatives in Great Britain have so far been granted about 50 visas. At the same time, it was reported that over 5.5 thous. the applications were submitted on-line and nearly 2,400 people made an appointment in person to submit the applications.
