BRICs formation cut a lifeline for Putin.
From any country sanctioned by the West can just hide in BRICS except India and China which are too big to depend only on BRICS market.
BRICs however is too disunited to be a trading bloc against the west.

He seems to be warming ties with allies I would presume if a showdown with the West happen eventually. US whack Vietnam hard in Vietnam Wars so the hatred still there.
