The US president is posting copies of separate letters addressed to Brunei, the Philippines, Iraq, Algeria, Moldova and Libya. Each country’s letter has its own tariff rate:

minimum is 10% as like UK.
I thought Sg will face 10% for general items,
but some niche one like pharma items will face 200%.

Moldova is a very poor country. Now with tariffs it can't even attract foreign investments because nobody will go there to set up a factory to export to US.

High tariffs on small countries will lock them in poverty.

This type of country based tariffs will just fail to achieve it's goal but will disrupt supply chains.

The reason is about 95% of production is intermediate goods then final assembly is somewhere else.

So lets say UK and Sg has 10% tariffs...Taiwan 30%
Malaysia has 25 and Thailand 30%.

To make a PC you need harddisk from Thailand and Intel CPU from Malaysia.

Instead of assembly from Taiwan to export to US ...you assemble in UK and export to US.....the whole thing is 10% tariffs.

You will not export to US the parts than have it assembled there because the parts now attract high tariffs.

In fact , factories be it cars of whatever US make because they need to import parts should uproot and go to UK where tariffs are lower.
