What did Malaysia do wrong? 1% more than the original tariff.

US knows Malaysia is another big transshipping port for China, as big as Vietnam. Y they r not offering the same kind of tariff structure as Vietnam, one 4 local manufactured goods and another 4 transshipping?

Malaysia exports as much goods to US as it imports around $47B.

This is 13% of it's exports.

Impact is minimal

The tariffs is dynamic one. Once all set. They can change every other day if they want using executive order. If trade flows through somewhere as transshipment they will do something.

But as a whole country based tariffs cannot work. Through history most tariffs is based on products or services you want to protect.

More than 90% of manufactured goods are made from imported parts nowadays. First companies to fir and move are US manufacturing companies because all their parts now kena high tariffs ...they might as will go to UK and imports parts at zero tariffs and export finished products paying 10% tariffs

Trump tariffs is a stupid thing. It's illogical

The court will end this soon.

There is more to it. Like Malaysia, Singapore also imports parts from China for its manufacturing. It is also one of the busiest transshipment port in the World. US only has 10% tariff on Singapore.

Omi.. Thank you for bumping up the message.

There is really no point slamming the US 4 raising the tariffs. Do what Singapore is doing and US will “slam” only 10% tariffs.  Ie, u can import what u want but msking  sure u add 25% local contents to those imported items b4 reshipping them to the US.
