3 Aug 2022 - The Australian government wasn't exactly cheering on Nancy Pelosi yesterday in her visit to Taiwan.
There was no applause from Canberra ... Prime Minister Albanese gave a dead-pan reaction when asked for his views. "The level of US engagement with our Taiwanese counterparts is a matter for them".
Aussie's Foreign Minister Penny Wong used the same set of deliberately unenthusiastic words: "It's a matter for them".
Aussie's think-tank is not taking China's future response against Pelosi action lightly...
Lowy Institute's International Security Program director Sam Roggeveen warns that Beijing has always been serious about Taiwan.
Basically, the trust between US and China has gone - We are in dangerous territory now in Asia.
Remember, for over 6 month, US remains hands-off from Ukraine....
'If the Americans do get involved then all bets are off,' Mr Roggeveen told the program. 'We are talking about certainly the largest war that we've in in Asia since Vietnam and potentially the biggest war we have seen in in the world since World War II that could involve the use of nuclear weapons.'
