Violence & revenge killings continued in areas loyal to ousted former leader Bashar al-Assad on Sunday. Hundreds of people have reportedly fled their homes in the coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartus - strongholds of Assad support. Local residents have described scenes of looting & mass killings, including of children.

In Hai Al Kusour, a predominantly Alawite neighbourhood in the coastal city of Banias, residents say the streets are filled with scattered bodies, piled up and covered in blood. Men of different ages were shot dead there, witnesses said. The Alawite sect is an offshoot of Shia Islam & makes up around 10% of Syria's population, which is majority Sunni Muslim. Assad belongs to the sect. People were too scared to even look out of their windows on Friday.

Internet connection is unstable, connected they learned of their neighbours' deaths from Facebook.  A man, Ayman Fares, told BBC he was saved by recent imprisonment. He posted a video on Facebook in August 2023 criticising Assad for his corrupt rule & was arrested soon & only released by Islamist-led forces who freed prisoners after Assad's fall last December.

JABLEH, Syria (AP) — Syria’s interim government signed a deal Monday with the Kurdish-led authority that controls the country’s northeast, including a ceasefire and the merging of the main U.S.-backed force there into the Syrian army. Deal is a major breakthrough that would bring most of Syria under the control of the government, which is led by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham that led the ouster of President Bashar Assad in December.

The deal was signed by interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the U.S.-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and deal to be implemented by the end of the year would bring all border crossings with Iraq & Turkey, airports and oil fields in northeast under central govt’s control. Prisons where about 9,000 suspected members of Islamic State group are expected to come under govt control. Clapping

A confirm from Ocalan’s msg. He is not isolated or purely domestic this offers a crucial opportunity redefine everything for Syria security policies to future positioning of Kurdish actors, shaping next phase of regional power dynamics. Ocalan delivered from a Turkish prison in February call on PKK to “convene congress to make a decision. Groups must lay down their weapons & PKK should dissolve itself. PKK leadership – from its longstanding command ctr in Iraq’s Qandil Mountains – responded to Ocalan’s call by declaring a unilateral ceasefire with final disbandment as well as decisions on disarmament & delayed until congress can be held in a month or two. (Another good news). Big Grin
