Explosions rocked Lebanese capital of Beirut on Friday. Israel said it struck Hezbollah’s HQ. Group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was the target, an Israeli official told CNN.

• The strikes flattened buildings in a densely populated area, killing at least six people and wounding dozens of others, according to Lebanon’s health. Israel launched further strikes on southern Beirut, targeting what it says are stores of Hezbollah weapons.

• Israel didn’t notify US about the strikes until the attack was underway, according to the US defense secretary. Sources say lack of notice added to US frustrations with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who has sent mixed messages on a US-led ceasefire proposal made a combative speech at UN General Assembly earlier Friday.

• Lebanon has recorded more than 100,000 people displaced by the recent conflict, but authorities said, true number is likely much higher. Upto half a mil people are likely internally displaced, Lebanon’s health minister told CNN.

Death of Nasrallah increases fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East

From CNN's Katie Bo Lillis & Natasha Bertrand
Israeli killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut has dramatically inflamed fears of a full-scale war in Middle East — a possibility US President Joe Biden’s admin has been desperately seeking for months to forestall, according to current & former US officials.

“I don’t see how this doesn’t go much wider soon,” said one senior Western official. Hezbollah certainly respond, according to Jonathan Panikoff, a former senior intelligence official specializing in region & Iran is likely to play a role.
“The response is likely to be big enough that the odds it will prompt a full-scale war will skyrocket,” Panikoff said.

There are some indications that Iran had already grown alarmed about the degree of damage Israel has been inflicting on Hezbollah, its most powerful & capable proxy militia in the region, according to a US military official. Senior US official said US believes Iran will intervene in the conflict if they judge, they are about to “lose” Hezbollah. The combined effects of Israel’s operations against Hezbollah had already taken hundreds of fighters off battlefield, according to that official and another person familiar with the intelligence.

US officials have long assessed that senior Hezbollah leadership has wanted to avoid all-out war with Israel, even as fighting has intensified in recent mths. Killing of Nasrallah is categorically different, however. Hezbollah’s rank-and-file have long been agitating to play a bigger role in the fighting with Israel since October 7, it now risks losing legitimacy in eyes of fighters & supporters if it does not offer a maximalist response to the killing of its leader, according to Panikoff.

The strike was also a clear signal of Israel’s willingness to risk a broader conflict. Tongue

Abbas Nilforoushan: Who Was the IRGC Commander Killed in Beirut?. Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, a Deputy Commander of Op for Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was killed alongside Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Israeli airstrikes in Beirut.

On the night of September 27, several accounts affiliated with the IRGC expressed concerns about the health of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah in Lebanon, and "Haj Abbas." First, there were reports of the death of a high-ranking IRGC commander referred to as "Haj Abbas." Later that night, the newspaper Keyhan reported that some sources had stated Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, the commander of the Quds Force in Lebanon, had been killed in an Israeli attack earlier that day, even before the official announcement.

Final Social Media Post: Incident occurred shortly after Nilforoushan's final post on social media account. In post, he made a cryptic statement: "Wounds for wounds; do not struggle. You will not live to see 81?. We'll leave western side open, but the condition is knowing how to swim." referring to Israel's existence. Some users has commented under his post, noting he did not live to see 59. His name has joined list of commanders who assassinated by Israeli forces in recent years. List includes Muhammad Reza Zahedi, who was killed in an Israeli missile strike on Iranian consulate in Damascus. After Zahedi's death, Nilforoushan reportedly took over as commander of Lebanon within IRGC. Similar to Nilforoushan, several IRGC commanders who have been killed in Syria, Lebanon, or Iraq, such as Hassan Shateri, Hossein Hamedani, Qassem Soleimani, & Seyyed Reza Mousavi played roles suppression of domestic protests in Iran over years.

Sanctioned by the West. He was one of the key figures in suppressing the woman. Life, Freedom protests, which began in Iran in Sept 2022. Following violent actions against demonstrators, US condemned as "savage," Nilforoushan was sanctioned by U.S. Treasury Dept. Commanders, including Mohammed Kazemi & Ahmad Shafahi were also included in sanctions. On Dec 7, 2022, Nilforoushan stated “for subversion, one must pass through a sea of blood,” for similar reasons, he and 17 others were added to European Union’s sanctions list, he rise through Ranks of IRGC.

Hezbollah is designated as a terrorist organisation by Western states, Israel, and some Gulf Arab states. We just brought you comments from Hezbollah's deputy chief, Naim Qassem. But what is Hezbollah? Me It's a Shia Muslim political party and armed group that receives strong financial and military backing from Iran. The Lebanon-based group has a significant presence in the Lebanese parliament and govt controls the most powerful armed force in the country.

Hezbollah rose prominence in 1980s in opposition to Israel, whose forces had occupied southern Lebanon during the country's 1975-1990 civil war.
When Israeli troops withdrew from Lebanon in 2000, Hezbollah took credit for pushing them out and continues to oppose Israel's presence in disputed border areas. In 2006, a full-blown war broke out between Hezbollah and Israel, triggered by a deadly cross-border raid by Hezbollah.
Israeli troops invaded southern Lebanon to try to eliminate threat from Hezbollah. About 1,000 civilians were killed in conflict but Hezbollah claimed victory has since increased its number of fighters & upgraded its weapons.

What is Hezbollah and why is it attacking Israel?.
Hezbollah ready for ground offensive, says deputy
Qassem now said.

Analysis -- Naim Qassem's speech was announced by Hezbollah’s press office only about an hour be4 it was broadcast. A first speech by a high-rank Hezbollah official since they lost their leader Hassan Nasrallah.

It was clear he wanted to send the message that, despite the unprecedented blow Hezbollah has faced, the group will be standing, reorganising and continuing its fight against Israel. On who is going to replace Hassan Nasrallah, he said their council will decide soon. But all those commanders & top-rank officials had deputies who can step in. He also said that Hezbollah knows that the battle "may be long", and the options are "open to them".
"We are ready for a ground invasion, and we will emerge victorious," he said.

And he thanked all the Lebanese people, and the govt. It was clear that his speech was dedicated to group’s supporters & fighters & main message was that no matter who dies, "the resistance" will replace them and stay powerful.

Israel has recently conducted critical long-range operations against the Houthis, but time will tell if the terrorist group will be discouraged.

Israel carried out its second round of airstrikes against the Iranian-backed Houthis on Monday, an important mission as it involved dozens of aircraft, included mid-air refueling, and was a long-range mission. This operation is significant in ways that go beyond just the Houthis; it is good operational real-time training.
Yet, when it comes to the objective of striking back against the Houthis, the question remains whether the group will be deterred.

At least six people have been killed and eight wounded in an Israeli air strike on a building in central Beirut, Lebanese officials have said.
The multi-storey block in Bachoura housed a Hezbollah-affiliated health centre, which Israel's military said was hit in a "precision" attack is the first Israeli strike close to Beirut's centre - metres away from Lebanon's parliament, five other air strikes overnight against targets in the southern suburb of Dahieh.

It comes after the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said eight soldiers had been killed in combat in southern Lebanon, its first losses since the start of ground operations against the Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah.

Hassan Nasrallah to be buried In Karbala? Big Friday symbolic funeral In Beirut
A massive symbolic funeral of Hezbollah chief, Hassan Nasrallah, killed by Israeli airstrike, will held today Friday. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will lead prayers from Iran.

Why Symbolic?. -- With Israeli continue it onslaught against leadership of the ‘Axis of Resistance’, a proper send-off for the slain Hezbollah chief is not possible at this juncture. However, in a major show of solidarity, Iranian foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is in Beirut to be a part of the prayers although he will not participate in funeral procession for security concerns. A
real funeral in not possible, there would be a befitting burial for Hassan Nasrallah, albeit discreet, as with case with several commanders killed last week. A proper religious ceremony could be held when situation stabilises.

Symbolic Burial? (Not now). In Islam, burial should take place soon as possible for muslims strive to bury their dead in no more than 24 hours. It is not a rule per se. Ideally, his bodies are kept for no more than three days, but if there are forensic inquiries then, body is kept for longer.

For eg. Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi’s body required investigations to ascertain cause of death, so must put on display to convince people he was dead. On other hand, Slain Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden’s body was washed, shrouded &
disposed of at sea in no longer than 24 hours.Given protracted nature of this war, a burial ceremony for Nasrallah might not be possible, therefore could be discreet, low-key event until a decision on his final resting place which could be in Lebanon, Karbala in Iraq, or Najaf Iran.

Pentagon said two US Navy destroyers deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean fired a dozen interceptors as part of the efforts to defend Israel, (but....two is not enough as is take only a few minutes to reach fron Iran to Israel).

(That was not known whether they took down any missiles and my answer is zero (0)) to Israel.)

UK Defence Secretary John Healey said British forces had "played their part in attempts to prevent further escalation”. But BBC understands British military jets did not shoot down any Iranian missiles.?.?.?.

Israel or U.S. want to protect (her) Israel, maybe at least 10 or 20 more destroyers must be ready in minute standby.... Tongue
