Moody's turns negative on US credit rating, draws Washington ire
Moody's on Friday changed its outlook on the US credit rating to "negative" from "stable" citing large fiscal deficits and a decline in debt affordability, drawing immediate criticism from the Biden administration. The move follows a rating downgrade of the sovereign by another ratings agency Fitch earlier this year, which came after months of political brinkmanship around the US debt ceiling. "Continued political polarization within US Congress raises the risk that successive governments will not be able to reach consensus on a fiscal plan to slow the decline in debt affordability," Moody's said in a statement.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana - The United States announced joint flight drills with Guyana’s military on Dec 7, as soaring tensions over a contested oil-rich region on the Venezuelan border prompted the UN Security Council to call an urgent meeting.
A feud has been spiralling over the Essequibo region, administered by Guyana for over a century but also claimed by Venezuela – which now seeks to bring the area under its rule.
Increasingly alarmed at the threat from the authoritarian leftist Venezuelan government, the United States announced military exercises.

USA'S DAY OF IGNOMINY
The 8th of December 2023 will go down into history as the day the US tarred and feathered itself in shame when it vetoed the UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire at Gaza.
Of the 15-member council, thirteen members supported the resolution but only the US voted down the resolution which could have brought the war in Gaza to an end. The missing vote was from Britain which abstained from voting.
The reason given by the USA's representative to the council meeting, Robert Wood, was that the Security Council resolution " would plant the seed for the next war". He didn't impress anyone with the argument especially those from the Muslim world. Instead his argument shocked the world including Arab allies.
IDF's reason for staying on the warpath to defeat and eliminate Hamas is hard to accept. Hamas is not the problem because today it is Hamas, tomorrow another name will appear in its place . Israel's brutality which some decry as act of genocide will spawn more hate for Israel amongst Arabs . Not only will there be a next conflict but more conflicts from all corners will jump into the queue to fight Israel . Robert Wood's reason for the veto was just naive and amateurist. It would not even convince a child .
Meantime the Gaza war continues to rage . More than 17,000 Gazans have lost their lives including 7000 children; some perished while gasping for air in incubators that were in shutdown due to power failures from israel's relentless bombing. Another 46,000 Gazans suffered injuries.
The world no longer believes in the US . Every desperate move it made in the Gaza war to project a kinder image of itself through voicing advice to Israel to be more targeted in its action or avoiding civilian casualties or allowing humanitarian aids and safe corridors , all were met with skepticism.
Palestinian Prime Minister , Mohammed Shtayyeh, held nothing back when he opened his heart and fired at the US. Palestinian ambassador to the UN , Riyad Mansour, said the US was taken on a ride by Israel.
The US had a chance in the Gaza war to redeem its lost image . But it acted unwisely. It is racing downhill without brakes and it will only end in an inevitable crash. It is as if madness has the US in its grip.
