A first load of Ukrainian grain set sail on Monday August 1st. In the early morning, the Razoni , a 186-meter bulk carrier, flying the flag of Sierra Leone and loaded with 26,500 tonnes of maize, left the port of Odessa for Lebanon.

It must leave Ukrainian territorial waters via a secure maritime corridor, in application of the agreements signed on July 22 by Ukraine and Russia thanks to Turkish mediation.

The Razoni is due to arrive in Istanbul on Tuesday August 2 where it will have to undergo an inspection under the authority of a coordination center set up under the aegis of the United Nations.

Then he should be able to resume his journey.

From the start of the war , Ukraine tried to find alternative solutions to continue exporting. Cereals were transported by train to Romania, where they departed from the port of Constanta. But this method does not allow large quantities to be transported. In June, Ukraine was able to export only 1.4 million tonnes of grain.

A major producer of wheat, sunflower, barley and maize, Ukraine exported five million tonnes of grain per month before the war.
