Russia’s military strategy now appears to be surrounding the city, which is a key transportation hub in the region.
The officer, who preferred to stay anonymous, said his military leadership want to hold their positions at all costs, often leading to the loss of troops and resources.
That approach, he says, was resulting in a number of “cauldrons”, large territories surrounded by the Russian forces.

It will be a repeat of Bakhmut. Ukraine even pull some troops back from Kursk to support that shows how important Pokrovsk is. It is a major supply hub sending food water ammo medicine etc to various parts of Eastern front. Loss of this city would be they need to re-establish another supply hub further back leading to greater distance to support Ukraine Eastern front soldiers. Soldiers with no food or water or ammo or medicine is not going to fight leading to major capitulation or collapse Eastern front.

There is no big decent fortress behind Pokrovsk, but according to few online analysts it may not be immediate target for now.
