SINGAPORE - More homes will be improved with better facilities and fittings, with a second batch of about 230,000 Housing Board flats built between 1987 and 1997 eligible for the Home Improvement Programme (HIP).

Upgrading works will start first for about 56,000 flats from this group, the HDB said on Sunday (Feb 20).

......

15 years after the programme was launched in 2007, comes as HIP works for almost all the first batch of 320,000 eligible flats built before 1986 are reaching completion.

.....

about 81 per cent - about 259,100 flats - have completed upgrading works, while another 17 per cent - about 55,100 flats - are in various stages of upgrading

......

The programme has three components - essential improvement items, optional items and enhancements for active seniors (Ease).

The essential improvements, such as repair of spalling concrete or structural cracks, and installation of a retractable clothes drying rack, enhance public health and safety standards and are fully paid for by the Government.

Optional improvement items, such as new entrance doors and gates, are subsidised up to 95 per cent depending on flat type.

......

The Ease programme, also heavily subsidised, provides elderly-friendly fittings for the homes, such as grab bars, ramps and slip-resistant treatment to toilet floor tiles.

These fittings are also offered separately under a direct application route for residents who need them, or whose blocks do not qualify for HIP.

You can choose not to upgrade. But so far I have not seen anyone chose not to upgrade. Too good an offer to refuse I think.

Which Idiot PAP came up with this idea?

1. We are only leasees.
And stil must co-pay for PAP such upgrading projects?

2.No priorities.
They think the elderly do not grow old day by day?
They can wait until their turn 5 or 10 years later for Safety upgrades?

3. Why the over-paid dumb Mayors not acting on this?
Their name list do not have any elderly in their division?

Sack half the Mayors & PAP Ministers

EASE is handled separately by demand. Does not need to go with upgrade.

Nothing to do with demand because PAP rarely blow and announce such benefits.

Just give them $5k like other countries once they hit 70 years old.

Let them do the safety upgrading as needed.

The mayors just need to keep track of the budget for each elderly.

Huh? EASE has been made known for years. Quite a few of my neighbours had installed them years ago. My parents too.

For direct application without HIP, go here: https://www.hdb.gov.sg/residential/livin...niors/ease

Not many elderly know. My neighbours do not know.

My friend does not know. She is a volunteer to help elderly too.

She tell the elderly to get maids. Nothing about EASE.

If not qualified for maids, she said she can help to bring them to MPs.

Umm, the elderly not knowing about EASE is possible since they might not read the newspapers. EASE was reported in the newspaper several times in the last decade.

For my neighbours, mostly it is their children who informed them about it. My parents knew about it around the same time I did, so I don't have to tell them about it.
