Isn't S'pore becoming like this now with spiraling inflation and the S'pore Dream drifting further away or beyond the reach of most Sinkies? Of course, many Sinkies will now deny that their dream is to afford a landed/condo and car, but the truth is that they have to convince themselves that they have a "new dream", now that the 2 big ticket items are no longer realistic to aspire to.
