Third dose of Sinopharm vaccine needed for some in UAE
#1

A "very small number" of people in the United Arab Emirates are being invited to receive a third shot of the Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine after antibody tests indicated they did not have a sufficient immune response following two doses of the Chinese-made vaccine, its distributor confirmed Sunday. There have also been reports out of China of people being initially unresponsive to the vaccine and requiring additional doses.

Walid Zaher, the chief researcher for G42 Healthcare, which distributes the Sinopharm vaccine in the UAE, told Dubai Eye radio that a study was underway to give some people third doses.

“When some people are found to be not really responsive to the vaccines, which is expected with all vaccines, there was an initiative to approach these people and give them a third shot of the Sinopharm vaccine, which has shown, within the context of the study, to boost their immunity,” he said.

UAE zoomed ahead in their vaccination, but chose the wrong vaccine. Too bad, must redo everything.

Hope that our private clinics or institutions have those antibody test kits for inactivated vaccines. Two weeks after injection, the test can be done to know the level of protection. Some countries already have them. Don't see why we don't allow it.

Our HSA should allow the importation of such devices and just state they cannot verify the accuracy of the results.

A neutralising antibody test is more informative about your immunity to the virus.

The presence of neutralising antibodies could even be used as a form of social passport, enabling those with a positive test to enjoy greater freedoms. For instance, Hong Kong recently announced that fully vaccinated travellers who also test positive for neutralising antibodies could undergo a seven-day quarantine, rather than the usual 21 days.

ANTIBODY TEST
Like many general COVID-19 antibody tests, neutralising antibody tests involve testing a small blood sample. Some of these tests are designed for use in a laboratory, while others are Rapid Diagnostic Tests. These RDTs involve placing blood onto an absorbent pad at one end of a small plastic cartridge and waiting 20-30 minutes for the result to become visible within a separate reading window in the cartridge.
